DAria Winery

DAria Winery

D’Aria wines are handcrafted from start to finish. Grapes are hand picked and bunches and berries undergo a second sorting, also by hand, at the cellar.

White grapes are processed in an inert nitrogen press to minimise oxidation, fermented in separate batches in small stainless steel tanks to capture a range of aroma and flavour characteristics, and then blended to achieve the winemaker’s vision of perfect balance.

Red grapes undergo maceration and gentle crushing in stainless steel tanks, are fermented at carefully controlled and varietally optimal temperatures and then matured in 225l oak barriques.

Durbanville Hills

Durbanville Hills

The unique location of Durbanville Hills’ cellar a mere 20 minutes from Cape Town’s city centre, offers not only a spectacular view of Table Mountain and Table Bay, but also an extraordinary terroir that stabilises temperatures and eliminates extremes of heat and cold. Although the Durbanville area is renowned for its SAUVIGNON BLANC that excels under the cool conditions where it is grown mostly on the cool south facing slopes, the range of RED WINES also benefit from the warmer valley outskirts and opposing northern slopes.

Nitida

Nitida

HANDMADE THE NITIDA WAY

"Our bottom line is that, to be part of the Nitida family, requires commitment, passion and a desire to be involved. Our punch through system, while automated, was designed by the engineer in Bernhard to closely emulate a traditional hand-punch method. Of course we do use modern technology for pressing and pumping, but always seek out the gentlest methods."

Phizantekraal

Phizantekraal

"Centrally sited just outside Durbanville the farm offers wine lovers and food enthusiasts a peaceful refuge to relax before setting off to explore the rest of the valley. Visitors are reminded that this is a working farm and, while children are welcome, they must be supervised at all times."

"The farm is situated on the north-east side of Durbanville where the sea breeze from the icy Atlantic meets the dry heat of the interior. Blessed with its favourable location, good climate and fertile soil, the farm produces wines of superior quality and singular character. In 2005 the first Cabernet was bottled, followed shortly by Phizante Kraal Shiraz, Sauvignon Blanc and Chenin Blanc. The first Pinotage will be bottled in 2016. The family does not believe in mass production, preferring to produce a limited number of bottles per year."

Signal Gun

Signal Gun

Winery and Brewery

"The VOC installed more than 50 cannons on hills and mountains around the Cape to form a signal gun chain that could call the Burgher Militia to defend the Cape. This signal gun chain extended from Signal Hill, Cape Town via Durbanville to Citrusdal in the North West, Worcester in the north and via Tygerberg to Suurbraak beyond Swellendam in the east. We still have the original Signal Gun on our farm and use this cannon and a few others that are still in good working order to fire shots on joyous occasions."
